Among the 25 parts that make up a bicycle, including the frame, tires, pedals, brakes, and chain, the basic components are indispensable. Of these, the frame is the bicycle's skeleton, and it bears the weight of both the rider and the cargo. Based on the work features of each component, they can be broadly divided into the guidance system, the propulsion system, and the braking system:
1. The guidance system: This consists of the handlebars, forks, front axle, and front wheel. The rider can steer the bicycle and maintain balance by operating the handlebars.
2. The propulsion (transmission or locomotion) system: This includes the pedals, middle axle, crank, chainwheel, chain, sprocket, rear axle, and rear wheel. The rider's pedaling force is transmitted through the pedals, crank, chainwheel, chain, sprocket, rear axle, and rear wheel, allowing the bicycle to move forward continuously.
3. The braking system: This consists of the brake components, and the rider can operate the brakes at any time to slow or stop the bicycle, ensuring safe travel. In addition, for safety, aesthetics, and practicality, other components such as lights, supports, and bells are also installed.
